A little Northwest of Foggy Bottom is Georgetown. With upscale condominiums and college town apartments, Georgetown has transformed into a vibrant community with retail shops, bars and restaurants along its cobblestone streets. The homes in this DC neighborhood are restored from over 200 years of history.
If you are considering buying a home in Washington, DC, you probably already painted a picture of what you are looking for. If your canvas was inspired by a movie based in the nation’s capital, most likely the picture you drew was inspired by the Georgetown neighborhood. That’s because nearly every film made in the DC area shows footage of this amazing neighborhood somewhere in its storyline.
Georgetown is the stuff urban fantasies are made of! It’s not only one of the oldest neighborhoods in the DC area, Georgetown also enjoys prime Potomac River frontages. Add to that the amazing array of trendy bars and restaurants, unique galleries, independently owned shops and you can carve out the ultimate urban warrior lifestyle.
Georgetown is one of DC's best-known neighborhoods and was once an 18th century port town. Today the neighborhood is filled with remarkable row houses and multi-family dwellings. The Georgetown neighborhood itself is defined by the commercial corridor that bursts forth from the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street. The area is brimming with kitsch shops, bars, dining establishments and the Georgetown Park shopping mall. The waterfront restaurants at Washington Harbour offer those trekking down K Street NW an amazing choice of meals and refreshments.
Of course many people define the Georgetown neighborhood by the Georgetown Univeristy’s main campus, but it boasts many other landmarks including the embassies of Ukraine, Thailand, Mongolia, Sweden and France. The neighborhood also plays host to the Volta Bureau and the Old Stone House, a unique, unchanging landmark.
