I’m Planning to Buy a House in the DC area. How Much Do Realtors Charge?
Are you interested in buying a home? Are you ready to take your search off-line, and want to work with a realtor but don’t know how much they charge. I am asked this question all the time, and the answer may surprise you. Realtors offer their services to buyers at no cost to them. In other words, it’s FREE!*
“How is that possible,” you ask? Well, not only is it possible, it happens every day. The way it works is that the home seller pays the fees of both the listing agent and the buyer’s agent. That’s right, the seller is paying the commission of their own agent AND the agent representing you, the buyer. The buyer agent’s fiduciary responsibility is 100% to their client (you). Isn’t that amazing? Where else can you get something for almost nothing. Sounds like a great deal to me. Now go out there and find yourself a good realtor. Of course, If you are interested in purchasing a home in my neck of the woods (DC, MD, VA), I’d be happy to help you. Give me a call!
* Buyers pay an administrative fee (typically in the range of $250-$400) to the brokerage company, payable at settlement. You are only charged if you purchase a home.
