Best Neighborhoods for Pets in DC

Harry s. Truman once said, "You want a friend in Washington? Get a dog." Though, in many residents' opinions, you'll find an abundance of two legged friends in the D.C. area as well, locals have still heeded the wisdom of Truman's sentiments. So, the question begs, where is the best neighborhood for me and my furry friend/s?Pet friendly neighborhoods in Washington DC

The urban life style can be more difficult for pet owners, but in D.C. you'll find many accommodating situations for your furry companions.

Dupont Circle: In Dupont Circle, you'll find some pet friendly apartments and condominiums and although the busy sidewalks can sometimes be overwhelming for your furry family members, there are some easily accessible and pet friendly areas such as the National Mall. Also, Walter Pierce dog park connects Dupont Circle to Adams Morgan.

Adams Morgan: In  Adam's Morgan you'll find single family residences, and historical buildings renovated to house sometimes up to six different residences...some of these are pet friendly as well.

Columbia Heights: Columbia Heights , famous for row houses, is in close proximity to Shaw and 11th Street Dog parks. Meridian Hill Park and Rock Creek Park are also pet friendly options. Rock Creek Park has miles of trails your little pup will surely enjoy. Also, in the midst of Rock Creek park is an open field know as Glover Park dog park.

What are people saying about D.C.'s furry friendly amenities: has some great testimonials such as the following:

S STREET DOG PARK: "First time here last weekend and I had an absolute blast! Friendly people and friendly dogs. My puppy had a lot of fun being able to play with the other dogs, in which the diversity is a nice thing to experience."

SHAW DOG PARK: "They are open til 10pm and have lights for those short winter days. They have gravel here so I like it better dog doesn't get muddy feet. People at this park are also very friendly."

There are also many great pet businesses in the area such as groomers, dog walkers, and animal hospitals. Your precious pet will be in good hands in Washington D.C.

So, as Roger Caras once said, "dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole" and D.C. gets that. Dogs, cats, fishies, birds or even your kids...they're all welcome here!
