This culturally diverse neighborhood plays host to a large Hispanic community and comes to life after dark with a lively selection of more than 90 bars and restaurants many of which provide live music as part of the menu.
Originally named for the schools in the area, Adams Morgan is defined as those homes between Connecticut Avenue to the southwest, Florida Avenue to the south, Harvard Street to the north, Rock Creek to the west, 16th Street to the east and Florida Avenue to the south. Homes in the area tend to be 19th and 20th century row houses and apartment buildings.
Once host to Jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie, the area clubs specialized in bringing black Jazz musicians to the area. Now, live music flows throughout the area establishments and culminates in the Adams Morgan Day Festival that can best be described as a multicultural celebration that boasts craft booths, specialty cooking, and of course, live music.
The Adams Morgan neighborhood also features a Farmer's Market that brings fresh, organically grown produce, baked goods, cheeses, herbs, and more to area residents. This Saturday tradition has operated for more than 30 years in the same location.
Home prices in the area have remained quite steady in spite of the economic down turn. The median price of a home in the Adams Morgan neighborhood is about $452,000, making the second strongest showing in the area and outdone only by Capitol Hill.
